Happy New Year!

Monday, December 31, 2012

{Top: Asos; Skirt: Alexandra Grecco from Anthropologie; Shoes: Sergio Rossi (last seen here); Necklace: J.Crew}

{Just a casual promenade}

{Goofing around}

A tulle skirt is not the most practical of clothing options, but I could not resist buying this and making it work for New Year's.  It is such a ridiculously fun skirt to wear - swish swish swish - a great way to ring in the New Year.  Making this skirt evening appropriate is a no brainer, so I had fun putting together a brunch look.  Check in tomorrow to see what it looks like.

I hope you all have a safe and happy New Year's Eve and may 2013 be filled with all of your heart's desires.  I wish you all an abundance of happiness and may you always be surrounded by people you love.

Christmastime, part 1

Saturday, December 22, 2012

{Top: J.Crew (last seen here); Skirt: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Booties: Pour La Victoire; Necklace: Furla}

{my best Vanna White impression}

Of course red is the most appropriate color for the season, so when I saw this skirt, I knew I needed it for the holidays.  It's fun and flirty and can be worn dressy or casual.  This daytime look can work for a holiday brunch or even high tea with girlfriends.  Stay tuned for tomorrow's post featuring the skirt in a Christmas dinner look.

For all you who celebrate, Merry Christmas!

Perfect Pink Peplum...for work

Thursday, December 13, 2012

{Blazer: Benetton; Tank: J.Crew; Skirt: Alice & Olivia (on sale!); Heels: Miu Miu}

{Bracelet: Stella & Dot; Clutch: Stella & Dot}

I don't think I've ever loved a trend as much as I love peplum - it's flattering, it's slimming and it's fun.  I'm not one to wear bright colors as a bottom, but I couldn't resist this skirt and all the ways I could make use of it to add color to a Fall wardrobe.

Vintage for the Holidays

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

{Dress: Shareen Vintage; Belt: Bebe; Shoes: J.Crew; Pearls: J.Crew}

When I first tried on this dress at Shareen, I thought it was going to look too costumey.  I liked the fit so much, though, that I brought it home and new I could make it look more modern by adding accessories.   I adore the rouching on the sleeves and the all over heart pattern.  It makes me feel ladylike and young all at the same time.  Plus the color makes it very appropriate for the holidays.

Hope you are all enjoying all the festivities December brings.

Holiday dressing

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

{Top: Zara (last seen here); Skirt: Madewell (similar here);
Shoes: B Brian Atwood (on sale!)}

{Luxor Link bracelet and Suzanne ring
(check out the gorgeous matching earrings)}

It's that wonderful time of year of holiday parties and Christmas dinners and Secret Santas and every other reason just to get together with friends and family to eat and drink and be merry.  And, of course, each of these occasions requires a fabulous outfit to go along with it :).  Stay tuned because over the next few weeks I'll be posting my outfit ideas for the holidays and will be showing how to take key pieces from work to play.

This peplum top has become such a staple in my closet.  I love the way it fits, how the silhouette not only compliments midi skirts, but also skinny jeans and as a result is completely versatile.  This outfit easily takes me from work to dinner with friends.  What are your staple pieces?

Mixing prints

Friday, November 30, 2012

{Blazer: Nanette Lepore (old); Sweater: J.Crew; Blouse: J.Crew;
Jeans: Madewell; Boots: See by Chloe (on sale)}

I spent Thanksgiving in Palo Alto where, unlike SoCal, Fall shows it's colors everywhere.  I'm wearing a few of my Black Friday spoils (so excited about my new boots!) as I watch my little cousin wiggle board in the neighborhood.

A bright lazy Sun-day in LA

Monday, November 26, 2012

{My boxer, Layla}

{Jacket: RED Valentino; Belt: Theory; Jeans: J.Crew; Shoes: Marc Jacobs;
Bag: Louis Vuitton}
I hope all of you in the US celebrating Thanksgiving had a beautiful holiday.  I used these four days as an escape from the real world.  I stayed away from technology (as best I could) and instead spent lots of quality time with my family.  I feel so refreshed as I head back home today and ready for all the fun Christmas time brings.  How were all of your Thanksgivings?

Last weekend I wore this gorgeous jacket to brunch at Laurel Hardware.  The morning had started off so lazy that I wanted to feel a bit more polished for brunch without overdoing it.  I love the feminine details of the peplum hem and the small bow-tie at the neck mixed together with the fierce animal print.    I can easily wear it to work, to dinner or out and about on a Sunday.

I had planned on heading over to Domaine LA for their weekly wine tasting (they were showcasing some of 2012's Nouveau Beaujolais'), but ended up chatting the afternoon away with a good friend.  I did end up picking up a bottle to share with my family during Thanksgiving.  I highly recommend Domaine LA - their staff is knowledgable and really helpful, and in no way do you feel uncomfortable asking questions or for recommendations.  Plus, their Sunday wine tastings provide the laid back oenophiles with an easy go to weekend activity.

To print or not to print...for play

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

{Top: Zara (similar herehere and here): Pants: H&M; Clutch: vintage Cartier:
Shoes: Sergio Rossi; Bracelet: Stella & Dot}

I love the embroidery on this top.  It adds such a luxe element to the leather and is not so overwhelming that I can't wear it with this these patterned pants.  This outfit is perfect for a night out with friends at Scuola di Pizza.  Scuola is a part of the Mozza family, but unlike Pizzeria Mozza or Osteria Mozza, it hosts specialty pop-up dinners a few nights during the week, holds cooking classes and is used for private events.  Thursdays are salumi night, and if you are a connoisseur of charcuterie, then this is the place for you.  Mozza is the only restaurant in LA that is licensed to produce and serve cured meats and terrines on location.  This night is complemented by the whole hog dinner hosted on Saturdays.  It is such a treat to be at the Scuola, with its convivial and warm atmosphere and the exquisite aromas coming from the open kitchen, that you must get yourself down there soon and don't forget to bring your friends.

To print or not to print...for work

Monday, November 19, 2012

{Blouse: Alice & Olivia (similar here and here; Shell: J. Crew; Pants: H&M;
Shoes: Miu Miu; Necklace: H&M}

{Turquoise ring: Stella & Dot}

{Hope bracelet: Stella & Dot}
I usually steer clear of patterned pants, as they can accentuate everything I don't want accentuated. But because of the small repeating pattern and tapered leg, these are actually really slimming.  Plus it makes a work outfit a lot more fun.  So happy I picked these up at H&M.

I love crisp, white collared shirts, specifically ones that have french cuffs or puffy sleeves.   They're elegant and can be worn day or night.  Tuck them into high waisted pencil skirts, add a chunky necklace and a colorblocked shoe and you're ready for your meeting with clients.  Wear it with jeans, a blazer and strappy heels and you're ready for drinks with friends.  It's definitely a staple in my closet.

Check out tomorrow's post to see how I take these pants from work to play.

"Dress"ing for Work

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

{Dress and belt: From Shareen Vintage; Shoes: J.Crew}

{Stella & Dot bracelets: Chimera, Renegade; Gorjana bracelets}

I love dresses, for work, for play and for everyday.  I picked this one up along with the belt at Shareen Vintage.  I enjoy wearing vintage because of the way the clothes are cut - room in the hips and very flattering.  The clothes don't usually have labels, so you just have to try things on and see what works.
