Mixing prints

{Blazer: Nanette Lepore (old); Sweater: J.Crew; Blouse: J.Crew;
Jeans: Madewell; Boots: See by Chloe (on sale)}

I spent Thanksgiving in Palo Alto where, unlike SoCal, Fall shows it's colors everywhere.  I'm wearing a few of my Black Friday spoils (so excited about my new boots!) as I watch my little cousin wiggle board in the neighborhood.

A bright lazy Sun-day in LA

{My boxer, Layla}

{Jacket: RED Valentino; Belt: Theory; Jeans: J.Crew; Shoes: Marc Jacobs;
Bag: Louis Vuitton}
I hope all of you in the US celebrating Thanksgiving had a beautiful holiday.  I used these four days as an escape from the real world.  I stayed away from technology (as best I could) and instead spent lots of quality time with my family.  I feel so refreshed as I head back home today and ready for all the fun Christmas time brings.  How were all of your Thanksgivings?

Last weekend I wore this gorgeous jacket to brunch at Laurel Hardware.  The morning had started off so lazy that I wanted to feel a bit more polished for brunch without overdoing it.  I love the feminine details of the peplum hem and the small bow-tie at the neck mixed together with the fierce animal print.    I can easily wear it to work, to dinner or out and about on a Sunday.

I had planned on heading over to Domaine LA for their weekly wine tasting (they were showcasing some of 2012's Nouveau Beaujolais'), but ended up chatting the afternoon away with a good friend.  I did end up picking up a bottle to share with my family during Thanksgiving.  I highly recommend Domaine LA - their staff is knowledgable and really helpful, and in no way do you feel uncomfortable asking questions or for recommendations.  Plus, their Sunday wine tastings provide the laid back oenophiles with an easy go to weekend activity.

To print or not to print...for play

{Top: Zara (similar herehere and here): Pants: H&M; Clutch: vintage Cartier:
Shoes: Sergio Rossi; Bracelet: Stella & Dot}

I love the embroidery on this top.  It adds such a luxe element to the leather and is not so overwhelming that I can't wear it with this these patterned pants.  This outfit is perfect for a night out with friends at Scuola di Pizza.  Scuola is a part of the Mozza family, but unlike Pizzeria Mozza or Osteria Mozza, it hosts specialty pop-up dinners a few nights during the week, holds cooking classes and is used for private events.  Thursdays are salumi night, and if you are a connoisseur of charcuterie, then this is the place for you.  Mozza is the only restaurant in LA that is licensed to produce and serve cured meats and terrines on location.  This night is complemented by the whole hog dinner hosted on Saturdays.  It is such a treat to be at the Scuola, with its convivial and warm atmosphere and the exquisite aromas coming from the open kitchen, that you must get yourself down there soon and don't forget to bring your friends.

To print or not to print...for work

{Blouse: Alice & Olivia (similar here and here; Shell: J. Crew; Pants: H&M;
Shoes: Miu Miu; Necklace: H&M}

{Turquoise ring: Stella & Dot}

{Hope bracelet: Stella & Dot}
I usually steer clear of patterned pants, as they can accentuate everything I don't want accentuated. But because of the small repeating pattern and tapered leg, these are actually really slimming.  Plus it makes a work outfit a lot more fun.  So happy I picked these up at H&M.

I love crisp, white collared shirts, specifically ones that have french cuffs or puffy sleeves.   They're elegant and can be worn day or night.  Tuck them into high waisted pencil skirts, add a chunky necklace and a colorblocked shoe and you're ready for your meeting with clients.  Wear it with jeans, a blazer and strappy heels and you're ready for drinks with friends.  It's definitely a staple in my closet.

Check out tomorrow's post to see how I take these pants from work to play.

"Dress"ing for Work

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

{Dress and belt: From Shareen Vintage; Shoes: J.Crew}

{Stella & Dot bracelets: Chimera, Renegade; Gorjana bracelets}

I love dresses, for work, for play and for everyday.  I picked this one up along with the belt at Shareen Vintage.  I enjoy wearing vintage because of the way the clothes are cut - room in the hips and very flattering.  The clothes don't usually have labels, so you just have to try things on and see what works.

Seeing Green

Sunday, November 11, 2012

{Sweater: French Connection; Shirt: Aqua; Leggings: J.Crew; Flats: Halogen;
Purse: Kate Spade}
  I've been in summer fashions for seven months so I'm having a difficult time trasitioning into fall as the weather cools down in SoCal.  Here's my first attempt as I head out for brunch with my fam to La Conversation.  They have the most heavenly iced mini croissants.  Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

Beauty is in the details

{Stella & Dot Glint Flower earrings}

{Top: H&M (similar here and here); Pants: Zara (similar here); Shoes: Zara}

{Sidewinder and Tribute bracelets by Stella & Dot; Ring: Madewell; Watch: Michelle}

H&M, unlike Zara, is not a go to store for me.  But I do go in everyone once in a while hoping to score a trendy top or accessory without spending too much.  I love the paillettes on the collar - they're unexpected, dressy and make the top seem much more expensive than it actually was.  Peplum has been my favorite trend this year.  It may worry some girls, but I think it's very flattering especially for girls who have hips - it exaggerate curves and makes your waist look tiny.  These colorblocked shoes have been a mainstay of my wardrobe all summer - they add punch to any outfit and are so comfortable I wear them to work constantly.  I'll be sad to put them away once the cold weather begins to make an appearance in SoCal.

Summer fun in October

{Stella & Dot necklace}

{bracelets are Stella & Dot and Gorjana}

I feel so fortunate to be living in SoCal.  We've had a really warm Fall so far delaying the need for boots and tights and layers and layers.  I bought this two piece from Shareen Vintage during a vintage shopping trip with my good friend Annette.  Beth from FoodFashionandFun took pictures and even blogged about our fun shopping day.  The chambray shirt is from Madewell and is the perfect cover up for when it cools down at night.  I can't wait to wear this to Coachella next year.

These fabulous pictures are all thanks to Beth as well.  She and I have partnered up and have some fun collabs to share with you.
