A Belated Merry Christmas

Monday, December 30, 2013

{Dress: Zara; Shoes: Stuart Weitzman;
Necklace: vintage gift from A Vintage Splendor}

Hi all!  It has been a long time (and I know I keep saying that), but my life went into a whirlwind as soon as I started my new job and has barely calmed down since.  I hope you all have been merrying and jollying.  I have had an absolutely lovely week with my family and friends and feel beyond grateful for the love and support I am surrounded with.  It's a funny thing, this thing called life, we look for all the ways to live it right while each minute and hour steadily goes by.  This past year just reaffirmed for me to treasure the people that bring light and love into my life and to do the things that bring me joy and make life more than just living.  Work may inundate most of my moments, but I refuse to allow it to be everything I am.

I am happy to share Rue de Moi with all of you, a part of me that is constantly yelling to be heard and to be seen even when the work of others is all I have time for.  Thank you for stopping by and taking a look.  Wishing you all a lovely 2014!

Summertime Sadness

Saturday, November 2, 2013

{Dress: Karen Millen; Belt: Asos; Heels: Asos; Clutch: Kate Spade}

These pictures were taken way at the beginning of summer and I never got the opportunity to share them here.  But it was 83 degrees in LA today and considering I'm not ready for cold weather looks, I thought I'd share this fun work and play appropriate look before things start to cool down in SoCal.  I love white dresses - they're clean, simple, and oh so perfect with a tan - but I have a difficult time finding ones that suit my figure.  This one is perfectly fitted on my torso while the bell shape of the skirt gives me room to move - a perfect combo when you have a curvy bottom.

I hope you're all having a beautiful weekend!

I Want To Go Back

Monday, October 7, 2013

{Dress: TopShop; Belt: Anthropologie; Sandals: Jeffrey Campbell; Bag: Balenciaga}

{Besides the beauty of this tea set, how wonderful is the specially made carrying case?}
It's been a month since the boy and I have been back from a truly extraordinary trip, and I'm still missing those carefree days of wandering around the canals in Amsterdam, exploring the beauty of Prague, sailing in the Adriatic and mapping out our own bike tour in Berlin.  We were gone for 19 days, and it's taken me just as long to shrug off the despondency that set in as soon as I stepped off the plane back at LAX.  The memory of our adventures sometimes feel like a dream, especially when I had to get right back to work and long days at the office.  *sigh*

I have finally had a moment to go through the hundreds of pictures we took.  Here are a few we snapped while visiting Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin.  There is an extensive collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain as well as the personal china made for the royal family.  The intricate tea set above was one of many made for Sophie Charlotte.

I'm hoping to get back to a regular posting schedule.  Thank you so much for stopping by even with the intermittent posts.

50s Flare with a Modern Twist

Monday, August 5, 2013

{Dress: Anthropologie (similar here and here); Wedges: ShoeMint;
Belt: Shareen Vintage}

Is there anything more feminine than a 50s inspired dress?  This silhouette is a favorite of mine - it's flattering and flowy and hides beautifully what you don't want accentuated.  The added bonus that the skirt twirls - as a little girl I wouldn't allow my mom to buy a single dress or skirt if it didn't twirl properly.

The double belt and yellow wedges are my way of updating the look.  The dress is conservative enough that I can wear it to work, even with the wedges.  Plus, I use summer as my excuse to make boring officewear a little bit brighter.

Dressed Up Khakis With Dressed Down Peplum

Friday, July 26, 2013

{Peplum: d.RA (similar here & here); Belt: ADA; Pants: Gap;
Necklace: J. Crew (similar); Shoes: Asos; Bag: Gucci}

You may have noticed that I love peplum - I love the exaggerated silhouette and I particularly love how this top dresses up a pair of very comfortable Gap khakis.  I wore this look to a casual birthday party, but added heels to make the look more playful.  Put on some cute flats, and this is a chic look while playing tourist.

I feel like summer is flying by.  I barely notice the days pass - work has taken over my life.  But, I am so looking forward to a vacation adventure the BF and I are going on towards the end of August.  I think it makes the crazy work schedule all worthwhile.  Do you have any special plans for the summer?

Purple Gingham at the Beach

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

{Dress & belt: Shareen Vintage; Wedges: Prada; Bag: Chanel}

Hi everyone!  I feel as if I've been away for a very long time.  My new gig, unfortunately, doesn't really afford me a lot of time for blogging, but I'm trying to fit it in where I can.  Took these pictures near Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica on a very warm and hazy day.  I have a weakness for pretty flowy dresses, particularly in different shades of purple - add on a belt and wedges and it's a perfect weekend look.

Hope you all are having a great summer!

Yellow Flowers for Work

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

{Top: Anthropologie (similar); Skirt: Asos; Shoes: Jean Michel Cazabat}

Layla seems to enjoy taking pictures as much as I do - she definitely likes to play it up for the camera.  I haven't had much opportunity to take many pictures lately.  My new job, for the moment, is taking up all my time and then some.  I hope to get back to posting more often soon.  Thank you everyone for visiting my small corner of the blogosphere and I hope you continue to check back in.

Happy Wednesday!
