{Jacket: Marc by Marc Jacobs; Top: Madewell; Skirt: Zara; Shoes: L.A.M.B.; Necklace: Alexis Bittar (similar}}

{Not actually a "court" appropriate outfit}

Making this skirt appropriate for a night out is easy; the challenge, however, is in making it "work".  Black opaque tights and a quilted jacket keeps the look streamlined without adding too much emphasis on the skirt.

I'm not a fan of traditional workwear - it tends to look dowdy, uninteresting and very much like a uniform.  I enjoy being creative with my wardrobe, mixing and matching old with new, funky with practicality, chic with color, even if on some mornings it takes me forever to figure out what to wear.  It really changes the way I approach my day when I feel good in what I'm wearing.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Casual layers

{Jacket: Nordstrom; Cardigan: J. Crew (similar); Dress: Armani Exchange;
Boots: See by Chloe (on sale); Necklace: Forever 21}

{Layla helps with the final inspection}

When the weather gets unseasonably warm in LA, all you can do is layer up to accomodate.  I picked up this jacket in the Juniors department at Nordstrom and haven't stopped wearing it since.  The greyish olive color is a great compliment to most any look.

Happy Friday!

Dance Dance Birthday

Monday, January 14, 2013

{Coat: Zara; Dress: French Connection; Belt: J.Crew; Shoes: Gucci (on sale!)}

If I could, I would wear these shoes every single day - the colorblocked style and spiked heel are not only au courant, but they are incredibly comfortable making them perfectly appropriate for a night of dancing.  I wanted a dress that was feminine and would compliment the edginess of the shoes.  This fit-and-flare dress was exactly the look I wanted for my birthday - easy to move in while accentuating my waist and providing a nice pop of color.  And, of course, I can't forget the added benefit of the pockets -  I carried my gloss, phone and i.d. without fear of losing my clutch while dancing the night away.

A Touch of Pink

{Blazer: Rebecca Taylor; Scarf: Zara: Jeans: AG; Shoes: J.Crew; Bag: J.Crew}

{Layla taking a peek}
 A blazer and slim jeans has become my go-to outfit for any purpose at all - running errands, brunch with mom, early Sunday dinner, casual Friday.  It also makes getting dressed easy for those days when I have no inspiration but still want to look chic.  I particularly like this blazer because it's double-breasted and provides a great silhouette when buttoned.  I bought it during Lucky Shops in LA a few years ago, and it's been a great investment because it can easily be paired with skirts and dresses as well.

Hope your 2013 is off to a great start!

Happy New Year's Day!

Tuesday, January 1, 2013

{Shirt: Forever 21; Skirt:Alexandra Grecco from Anthropologie (last seen here);
Shoes: Brian Atwood}

Welcome to 2013 and I think tulle is a great way to begin the year, don't you?  It easily transitions from day to night and makes a champagne brunch that much more fun.  The cool grey tone pairs so prettily with purples (my favorite), pinks and blues.

Thank you to all of you for checking out my blog and for giving me feedback.  I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate it.  I hope you keep returning as I continue my adventures in fashion and life.
