Pink in the City

Thursday, February 28, 2013

{Jacket: J.Crew (old); Sweater: J.Crew (similar); Blouse: Forever 21 (similar);
Jeans: AG; Boots: See by Chloe;
Purse: Dior (chain extension from another bag)}

Any time I go on vacation, my biggest challenge is what to wear that's both comfortable (for all the walking) and chic (for the picture taking) at the same time.  These wedge boots have been the best item I've bought this winter - they give my height a slight boost while still being walkable.  The boy decided he wanted to walk the entirety of the City and County of San Francisco this past weekend, and for the most part I was able to keep up.  Layering was the key in not overheating under the sun but also staying warm in the shade.

I love how you can see the ocean from all over SF, and, even though, this is the reason why SF has so many overcast days, we somehow hit the weather jackpot and had plenty of sunshine to enjoy while we were there.

Pink & Purple

{Dress: Halston Heritage; Heels: Tania Spinelli (similar)}

{Kimberly Necklace and Avalon Hoop Earrings: Stella & Dot}

{Renegade Bracelet; Gilded Arrow Bangle; Suzanne Cocktail Ring: Stella & Dot}

{Trench: Anthropologie (similar here & here)}

Part of the fun of being a blogger are the collaborations you organize with friends for a day of dress up, food and lots of chatting and laughing.  When Beth asked if Annette and I would want to come by to preview the Spring 2013 collection for Stella & Dot, take some pictures and have a home-cooked meal, my answer was an immediate yes.  Blogging can sometimes feel like a lonely project, so it's always a pleasure to be with friends that share freely about their own blogging experiences, which can then turn into a brainstorming session.   Annette is my fashion buddy - our tastes are similar but we compliment each other instead of looking like copies of one another.  Plus, it's always a treat to have a girlfriend with a good eye help tweak your look while taking pictures.

Thank you, Beth!

Candy Colorblocking

{Jacket: H&M (old); Dress: Prabal Gurung for Target;
Shoes: Christian Louboutin; Necklace: Madwell; Bracelet: J.Crew;
Watch: Michele}

I was quite a bit disappointed by the quality of the Prabal Gurung for Target collection, especially because so many of the looks presented so nicely in the ads.  This dress was the only one I held on to because it fits perfectly, the material is weighty and doesn't feel cheap and I love the colors.  I also received a bunch of compliments the afternoon I wore it out.  It's easily styled with cute flat sandals for a weekend brunch or with heels and a crop jacket for an evening out.  I added the ribbon belt for just a little bit more flair.

Flowers, Stripes & Animal Print

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

{Blazer: Zara; Top: Zara; Necklace: J.Crew; Pants: J.Crew}

{Sunglasses: RayBan; Booties: Stuart Weitzman (on sale!)}

My beautiful Layla

I never thought I would like animal print anything as much as I love these booties.  The style and the print are very much out of my norm, so it's been fun working it in with my clothes.  Shoes can really make an outfit and these booties can make a simple look that much more chic.  It's surprising how many compliments I receive on them just from men alone.

What's your favorite piece in your closet right now?

Red and Brocade

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

{Jacket: America Eagle; Cardigan: J.Crew; Shirt: Uniqlo (similar);
Skirt: Peter Som (similar here & less here);
Shoes: Vera Wang (similar here & less here); Necklace: H&M (similar)}

One of the best things about fashion blogging is how much fun you can have reimagining clothes you've had in your closet for a long time.  This skirt is part of a suit that's been hiding in a garment bag in my closet for years.  It's a beautiful weighty brocade but felt a bit too proper and conventional. So to make it fun for work I kept my shirt buttoned up but added a a colorful cardigan (worn backwards) with a cute little denim jacket.

Color Punch

Friday, February 1, 2013

{Blazer: Ted Baker (similar); Shirt: H&M (similar);
Pants: Alice & Olivia (similar); Belt: J.Crew (similar)}

I love buying workwear in unexpected colors, even though wearing bright colors to the office can seem daunting.  It does make the workday so much more cheery (or as cheery as it can possibly be).  This blazer and pants can both be paired with more subdued colors to make the look a little more conservative, but I thought it would be fun to pair them together for some punch.

Happy Friday and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
