Just a Little Crop

{Top: TopShop (similar); Skirt: H&M; Shoes: ShoeMint;
Necklace: Forever21; Clutch: Clare Vivier}

I wore this look for a lovely Saturday evening out with my mom.  The last few weeks have been a blur of traveling and hanging out with out of town friends that I'd had to forgo quite a few Sundays with my mom (every Sunday, for as long as I can remember, my mom and I spend the day together eating yummy food, watching movies, shopping, catching up on Downton Abbey, cooking or just plain old hanging out together).

Los Angeles sometimes gets mistakenly characterized as a city with no culture.  I think it's available to us in abundance - you can find a show, music or theater, every night of the week and art is everywhere, not just in museums.  The Broad Stage is a beautiful and intimate space in Santa Monica with a diverse calendar of performance including theater, opera, dance, symphony and more.  I was able to get us last minute tickets on Craigslist to see Paris Combo.  We spent a perfect evening listening and even dancing to the group's lively French pop and jazz selections.

I should also mention that we had an absolutely delectable meal at Via Veneto in Santa Monica.  I didn't keep to a French theme in choosing our restaurant for the night because a meal at Via Veneto is an absolute treat.  If you haven't been, then make sure you do if you find yourself in SM.

I hope everyone has a lovely week!

 Day 3
{Ensemble: Shareen}

Coachella is a magical weekend for me - an event I look forward to sharing with my lovely friends every year.  Many things, nice and not so nice, are written about the festival and its attendees.  For me, the experience is very personal and is all about what you make of it.  Considering how busy life is, I treasure the chance where I can get a group of my closest friends under one roof to share the craziness and wonder that Coachella can be.  There are very few things better than being with friends in the desert surrounded by music.  I am so lucky for the Coachella memories my friends have forever provided me with.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Vintage Florals

{Vintage dress; Heels: Sergio Rossi}

I recently rediscovered the amazingness of Ebay by signing up for the Zuburbia weekly finds newsletter (shh, don't tell anyone else).   This has led to hours of scouring listings of vintage dresses.  This gorgeous silk Eloise Curtis creation happens to be one of the items I scored.  Isn't it absolutely stunning?

Buying vintage clothing online can be a scary proposition, so pay close attention to the measurements provided in the listing and compare them to something comparable in your own closet.  I always keep a max bid in mind because it's easy to get caught in a bidding war over those one of a kind pieces.  Remember to calculate shipping as part of your maximum price and don't bid if you have any hesitation.  For me, a successful online vintage purchase is like opening a present - sometimes you're not exactly sure what you're going to get but it's a thrill finding out anyway.

I'm off to Coachella tomorrow for one of my favorite events in the world.  I'll have some recaps for you next week.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I may even see some of you in the desert!

Navy Stripes and Animal Print

Monday, April 8, 2013

{Blazer: Rebecca Taylor (similar); Dress: Topshop; Heels: J. Crew (similar)
Necklace: J. Crew (similar); Clutch: Clare Vivier}

This Clare Vivier clutch has to be one of my favorite purchases of this year (so far, at least), along with the Stuart Weitzman animal print booties seen here.  I would carry it everyday including to work, if it were big enough to accommodate all the items I lug around during the week.  Animal print is being called the new neutral and I couldn't agree more.  It's unexpected when mixed with cool colors (purples, blues and greens) and lots of fun when added to stripes.

And I must bring attention to these absurdly bright but absolutely fabulous heels from J. Crew.  I have never received so many compliments on any article of clothing from both men and women as I have with these shoes.  Put on your skinny jeans and a white blouse, add these shoes and top it off with the clutch and you have the perfect look for a night out with friends.

Hope you all have a great week and thank you for stopping by!

Goodbye Lenin

{Dress: Club Monaco; Boots: Maison Martin Margiela; Belt: Bebe}

I love so much how these pictures came out that I couldn't choose from among them! So I just posted most of them.  Thank you for indulging me.

I wasn't completely convinced in my purchase when I first got this dress, thinking the fabric was too dark and more appropriate for winter.  But the brocade is beautiful - the iridescent weave gives it such an understated drama that I can make use of it both for play and for work (just add tights).  And how great are these booties?  I scored them on Ebay from a seller in Germany.  The bf wasn't too crazy about their look, but I love the acrylic heel - it adds that little bit of flair that I'm always looking for in my clothing and accessories.
